Dr. Shah is a Diplomat of the American Board of Internal Medicine and Geriatric Medicine. Dr. Shah has been serving the community as a primary care physician for more than 20 years. Her areas of interest are preventive care, chronic medical conditions, acute care, and geriatric medicine. She treats a wide range of conditions including but not limited to hypertension, high cholesterol, diabetes, coronary artery disease, congestive heart failure, chronic kidney disease, peripheral vascular disease, gout, arthritis, asthma, emphysema, dementia, osteoporosis and depression.
She works hand in hand with other highly respected board certified specialists. This comprehensive approach helps ensure that each patient receives the most appropriate and best quality of care possible. Dr. Shah has been treating patients since 2007. This has given her many years of valuable experience and expertise treating her Nassau County neighbors.
As an expert internist, her focus is on prevention of diseases by providing comprehensive physical exam, detailed laboratory testing and recommended immunization. Her aim is to keep medical problems under best control by regularly scheduled check ups. She believes in preventive care, active lifestyle, healthy eating habits, proper weight control which help individual staying physically and mentally healthy.
As an expert geriatrician, She provides comprehensive care for the elderly. In addition to treating medical problems, she tries to help patients maintain a good functional status and maintain independence and safety for as long as possible. Her other clinical focus is to address polypharmacy, means to reduce number of medications for elderly, and to prescribe only those medicines which are safe for them.
With aging, particularly after 65 years of age, medical care starts getting complex and aim of treatment is to balance between medical care and maintain active lifestyle, with minimum possible side effects. She works closely with physical therapist to improve and maintain mobility and prevent falls.
Her clinical focus is taking care of elderly patients with dementia and “geriatric syndromes’.
Elderly are at risk of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease and she believes that diagnosing them in early stage is very important in managing the disease and plan the treatment as per patient’s wish.
There are certain common clinical entities in elderly, commonly known as “Geriatric Syndromes” like falls, memory loss, depression, incontinence, delirium etc. Taking care of elderly with this can become very challenging. With her caring nature, she provides compassionate care to elderly with dignity and respect that they deserve.
Dr.Shah loves to engage her patients in their medical care via patient education. She has done several community talks to educate people and increase awareness of their health.
Dr. Rupal Shah received medical degree from P.S.medical college, Gujarat, India. She did her Internal Medicine residency at Interfaith Medical Center, Brooklyn, NY. She did her Geriatric Fellowship at Northshore University Hospital (Northwell), Manhasset, NY. She has been in practice over 12 years. She is dual board certified by American Board of Internal Medicine in Internal Medicine and Geriatric Medicine.
As a primary care physician, she believes strongly in helping her patients maintain or regain their overall health.
