What are the signs and symptoms of gout?

Gout usually affects one joint at a time, often in the big toe. Other joints may get affected are ankle and knee joint and lesser toe joints. Symptoms may include : pain (usually intense), swelling, redness and heat.

What causes gout ?

Gout is caused by higher level of uric acid in blood, which can build up in joints. But high uric acid level does not always cause gout and high uric acid level without gout symptoms does not need to be treated.
